The promise of God is that you can enter His rest (be content). The following are attributes of those who are content and scriptures to help those who want to be content.
Common attributes of those who are content
1. They are grateful for what they have.
Being grateful allows you to be content.
Romans 6:16 Don't you know when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
Proverbs 13:25 The righteous eat to their hearts content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry
2. They decided to be content.
1 Timothy 6:8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
3. They learned this behavior.
Philippians 4:11 I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
4.They accepted the current situation even if it may be permanent and uncomfortable.
Luke 3:14 Then some soldiers asked Jesus, "And what should we do?" He replied. "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely-be content with your pay.
Signs or symptoms of NOT being in God's rest(contentment).
Focused or driven on what they do NOT have.
Not thankful in the new day God has given them. Always looking to change.
Money, Status, relationships, possessions, perfection, perfection in others.
Scriptures for those wanting contentment and rest.
Acknowledging God in all your ways. This verse does not say trouble will not come. It does however say you can be untouched or unaffected by the trouble. Determine that whatever may come your way, God is able to help you overcome and/or have the strength to see you through it.
Proverbs 19:23 The fear (respect) of the Lord leads to life, then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
Two things go hand in hand, grumbling and unbelief. When you find one, you'll find the other.
Stop all grumbling and false expectations of people and God's promises.
The Israelite's were prevented from going into the promised land (God's rest for them).
Hebrews 3:18 And to whom God did swear that they would never enter His rest if not to those who disobeyed.
Hebrews 4:6 Therefor since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them, did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day calling it today. Today if you hear His voice do not harden your heart.
Jesus made it easy for us to enter God's rest. Simply obey God's voice.
Striving leaves you wanting more. It does not mean you are wicked if you want more, however the action of wanting more may be considered an act of wickedness. It may also be an indication you are a slave to sin.
When you add to the yoke Jesus gave you, it may become a noose your enemy uses to hang you with.
The yoke assigned to you is what God has called you to do.
Mathew 11:30 For my Yoke is easy and my burden is light.
God feeds you with nutritious food when you use your talents.
John 4:34 "My food," Jesus said. " is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.
Find what that is and do it. Just ask Him what that is.
What are God's priorities for you?
2. Love your spouse
3. Care for your children and parents
4. Go to work (for those in ministry that is #4 not #1)
5. Extended family 6. Friends 7. Community 8 Enjoy life 9. Expand your territory.
Sharing in God's happiness by being faithful with whatever he has given you to do.
Mathew 25:17 Well done good and faithful servant you have been faithful with little. I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness.
The first scripture we used, Proverbs 13:31, mentions the righteous. Righteousness is not by works, it is by faith.
Romans 9:30 What then shall we say? That the gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness , have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith.
You will never know this righteousness without knowing and applying the Milk of the word first.
Then learn to say NO! A false religious spirit always demands more!
The number two problem in ministries is burn out. You need to live to serve another day.
Mathew 25:7-9 Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' " 'NO' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves."
There is an intrinsic tie between Godly contentment and the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 5:13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.
