RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD
First Resurrection of the dead is only for the righteous.
What is the resurrection? The transforming of our mortal bodies. You have to also ask who is the resurrection.... Jesus!
John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"
When did it begin?.... At Jesus's death.
Matthew 27:51-53 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
These people were raised from the dead along with Jesus but were Not resurrected. They likely died again. They are waiting, with us, for the resurrection of the bodies.
1 Peter 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
The resurrection, unlike being raised from the dead, means your body will never perish. You’re not perishable. You cannot decay in a grave.
Acts 2:29-32 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, and that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
Rapture: Part of the First Resurrection
Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift your heads; for your redemption draws near.
Mark 13:24 But in those days following that distress, "the sun will will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'. At that time people will see the son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.
Joel 2:28-31 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
Acts 2:16-20 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:‘In the last days, God says I will pour out my Spirit on all people.Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
Mathew 24:29-33 Immediately after the distress of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Then will appear the SIGN of the Son of man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. Now learn this from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.
This brings clarity to other scriptures but one in particular stands out. Speaking about this event, Mathew records Jesus saying; Mathew 13:20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. He then says Mathew14:22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.
If these events that precede the 1st resurrection occur during winter, a type of nuclear winter could occur. The worst effect would be for the people living in tropical or sub-tropical regions. Those living in far north or far southern climates can attest to the impact that repeated sunless days have upon the climate. They would be far better prepared but still Jesus said, no one will survive. Add to that a shifting of of the heavenly bodies. No one can say for certainty the impact that will have. Currently science is finding correlations between repeated Sun spots and earthquakes. We do know the impact that full moons have on the tides. Any change here could account for the description of the
Revelations 6:12-17 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” ( It is after this event that God now turns and makes reference to the tribes of Israel. then back to the great multitude from every nation, tribe and people and language.)
Who are they? Revelations 7:13-14 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?”I answered, “Sir, you know.”And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Commands about this event:
Mark 13:35 Keep watch. Joel 2:32 Call upon his name Joel 3:14 Make a decision. Luke 21: 25 look up
Where are you as a believer until this happens?
2 Corinthians 5:8
We are confident I say and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord (Your body is still here)
My Father’s House has many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you.
What will His appearing look like?
Acts 1:9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
Mathew 24:37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
They (the men in white) described how Jesus would return.
The resurrection reunites us with Christ the Bridegroom.
Romans 6:5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
What will it be like having a resurrected body?
Luke 24:36 Like Him Imperishable walking through walls.
Luke24:43 Not restricted by physical laws. He also ate with them. His disciples recognized Him and understood their relationship to him.
1 Corinthians 15:42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
How fast is the resurrection?
1 Corinthians 15:52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Paul is referring to himself and expecting Himself to be changed into the resurrected believer.
Do all believers participate in the 1st resurrection?
Mathew 25:1-12 At that time, the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five of them were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming. And all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, the cry rang out: Here's the Bridegroom! Come out to meet him! Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' “'No, they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' But while they were on their way to buy oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. Later the others also came. Lord Lord they said open the door for us! But he replied Truly I tell you I don't know you. Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
This indicates that not everyone who believes and calls Jesus lord will make the first resurrection. The wise stay prepared and do not allow the foolish to rob them. The wise were not satisfied with just enough. Jesus did not say I never knew you, He said I do not know you. In other words, he was saying He was not acquainted with them. For the foolish, they will go in the second resurrection. They will miss the 1000-year reign and now face a judgement seat of works.. They did not value the price paid for their sin and now will face a judgment that could lead to permanent death.
Everyone left, both righteous and wicked, go in the second resurrection.
Revelation 20:4-6 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
So those who are dead in Christ or those who go into the rapture will be raised to life and reign the 1000 yrs with Christ on the earth.
Then the dead will be Resurrected
Acts 24:15 and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.
Luke 14:14 And you will be blessed although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.
This clearly indicates two resurrections.
Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire
James 2:13 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Rev 20:10 And the Devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
The Lake of fire was originally created for Satan and Demons not people however, now includes people who do not make it safely through the second resurrection and the Great White Throne Judgement.
The First Resurrection is only for believers.
The second Resurrection is for everyone left who did not go in the first resurrection.
